The “Access Limitation” error, explained

The portal's block for behaviour that looks automated. What causes it, what it costs you, and how to recover — without risking your appointment or your fee.

What the error actually means

Since July 2024, the U.S. visa scheduling portal has enforced its prohibited-conduct rules with an "Access Limitation" block on accounts whose activity looks robotic. Reported U.S. Department of State guidance attributes the block to browser extensions and plugins that interact with the scheduling site — including tools built to check availability automatically, crowdsource appointment data, or book appointments. In other words: the block is aimed at automation around your account, and it lands on your account, not on the tool maker.

The common triggers

1

Slot-checking extensions

Extensions that sit inside your logged-in portal session to read, pool, or auto-refresh availability — including "alert" tools that monitor the schedule page for you.

2

Aggressive manual refreshing

Relentless manual refreshing and repeated login cycles can look automated to the same systems. Checking like a human means checking a few times a day, not a few times a minute.

3

Someone else "helping" on your account

Agents and done-for-you services operating your account with their own tooling. Their behaviour, your block — and the Embassy has cancelled bot-booked appointments in bulk (about 2,000 in March 2025).

How to recover

1. Remove the tooling. Uninstall any extension that touches the scheduling site, in every browser profile you use — a forgotten second profile is a common reason blocks return.

2. Stop and wait. Reported guidance suggests waiting at least 24 hours before trying again. Repeated attempts during a block can extend it.

3. Do not create a second account. Duplicate accounts are a separate violation and can strand your paid fee. One applicant, one account, patiently used.

4. Log back in gently. One login, a normal check, log out. If the block persists well beyond a few days, use the portal's official support channels — not a paid "unblock" service.

How SlotDost is built around this

SlotDost never touches your portal account: no login, no extension inside the portal, no automated checking, no booking. Sightings are reported by applicants themselves and independently confirmed before any alert goes out. It is a deliberate design choice — an alert is worthless if getting it costs you your account.
